bu, Abah dan Dik Nong
setelah bala aku pulang ingin melihat
kalian dan kampung
kukira 26 desember cuma mimpi buruk
tapi tak kutemukan kalian di sana,
juga Arif kecil yang cerewet
seperti kalian, kampung kita ternyata sudah tiada
berubah menjadi laut yang raya
lihat Ibu ada bangau putih
berdiri dengan sebelah kaki di bekas kamarmu
bangau itu tak bersayap merah
seperti dulu pernah kauceritakan padaku
My Mother’s Red Wings
Translated by Harry Aveling
Mother, Father and Nong my little sister,
I returned home after the disaster
wanting to see you and our village
I thought the twenty-sixth of December
was only a bad dream
but I didn’t find you there
nor could I find tiny Arif the chatter-box
the village had vanished,
just as you had,
it had turned into a vast ocean
Mother, look at the white crane
standing where your bedroom used to be,
the crane does not have red wings
the way I imagined them in my stories
when I was only a child
because, as you know, Mother,
the crane gave his red wings to you
to enfold Father and Nong my little sister.
