tinted windows mark an absence. collapsed flat, the chairman has left the building. a procession of yellow caps follow. snap-happy trails capture the centre, a megaphone will make the difference. cracked red lacquer. father wipes his brow & climbs the steps for a better shot. steps on the hard. the gold glazing marks the edges of a courtyard’s void.

herded to another.
dragon for posing.

the all on the stone stage. then a series of drains. it’s easiest to video things that don’t move. large bronze vats, for example. control the symmetry stills, note the absent cushion within a dwarfing mechanism. behold the emperor’s universal grain measure from which all debts could be cleared. steps on the hard syntax, move just a little to the left.

all along a centreline right through the middle of a square, gongs & bells sound as foreheads touch the stone at the foot of his yesness in the audience courtyard. red cracker lacked lacquer, in flames, rare books & scrolls were lost. Lao Zi: the best ruler is unknown to his subjects. control the abstract measures: the earth is square, thus repeatable.

scalloped in stone, there are certain formalities. his sundial to regulate the days, gates to regulate the flows. avoid an ornamental sword. to court the gods requires echoes of their retreat all along the rooflines. you reign in the flying pigeon from colliding with the tinted window car just in time. you catch a glimpse of an anonymous face. & then it’s gone.
