Going Down Swinging #25: a spoken word extravaganza

Going Down Swinging (GDS) is an Australian literary magazine featuring fiction, poetry, comics and spoken word. It’s been publishing since 1980 to widespread acclaim and is seeking previously unreleased material for it’s 25th issue—a double CD of spoken word from Australia and around the world.
WE WANT YOUR SUBMISSIONS! … We love all sorts of spoken word, be it live recordings, home recordings, with music, without, sound poetry … whatever it is you do. Ideally we are seeking to public previously unreleased material, but if your recording has had a very limited release we will consider it.

For more info visit: http://www.goingdownswinging.org.au/submissions.htm  You may email MP3s or questions to

. Submissions close on April 1 2007. We can pay international performers a small fee for every work published (AUS$50–$100), in addition to two free copies of the magazine. Contributors must fill in a submission cover sheet, which you can download from the website.

Background
GDS began in 1980 to represent writers who sat outside of both mainstream and high literary cultures. We publish work that we find exciting and interesting—work that speaks to us directly, and which resonates with a wide audience. We want to popularise literary endeavours and put new audiences in touch with new writers.

Since issue #18, GDS has published seven CDs of spoken word, and has become Australia’s leading publisher of this literary form. In that time, we have published 175 works from writers across Australia and the world, including artists from the UK, USA, New Zealand, Canada, Japan and Brazil.

What the nice people have said about GDS
“GDS is more than a literary journal, it’s an engagement with cultural dissent… It is not your regular literary journal that seeks to represent contemporary literary culture or cultures, but one that almost treats expectation and the programmatic with disdain ... GDS is a natural stimulant.”
