A joint collaboration between the National Book Development Council of Singapore and The Arts
House, the bi-monthly meetings of the Singapore Book Club aims to enhance the reading pleasure of book
lovers by creating an environment where all can come together and delight in the act of reading and
discourse.

Join author Dr. Pranav Joshi as he discusses “Behind A Cultural Cage”

GUEST
(Dr.) Pranav S. Joshi is a novelist, award winning
environmental professional, scientist, poet and a trainer.
He was born in Mumbai, India. After finishing his research
work for the Ph.D. degree at the prestigious Bhabha
Atomic Research Centre, he migrated to Singapore, and
further studied M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering at the
National University of Singapore. During his all-embracing
professional career, Pranav has written numerous
technical papers and manuals. He has published a literary,
multicultural novel “Behind a Cultural Cage”; that depicts
an intriguing story about a shy, ugly-looking Bengali
Chinese Indian man (Chindian), who migrates to
Singapore, and faces a question whether he is culturally a
guinea pig, and how much Chinese-ness and Indian-ness
he possesses. Pranav’s poems are published on his

SPEAKER / FACILITATOR
Mr. Om Nath Panday is a prolific writer. He has written
many things - articles, short stories and inspiring quotes
of wisdom. He has also penned some poetries. As a
passionate writer, he has been contributing to his
daughter’s school, MacPherson Secondary School,
where he is the Chairman of the Parent Support Group.
To provide colourful past into Old Singapore, he wrote
about the biography of Yahya Bin Mat Som, chronicled
in a book “The Home Team” by Ministry of Home
Affairs. His writings (be it historical, fiction work or on
social & educational issues) give fresh perspective and
powerful inspirations. His philosophy on good values,
humanity and global perception makes a mark in his
writing. Om Nath is active in the literary circles for example
the Singapore Book Club, Society of Singapore Writers
and Caferatti.
