Ta Teut Amarasi - Awakening: Contemporary textiles and prints based on the cultural traditions of Am

Friday, October 03, 2008

Asialink, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, Global Art Projects and Nomad Art Productions take great pleasure in presenting Ta Teut Amarasi - Awakening. The exhibition results from a series of workshops conducted in Baun, Amarasi by Darwin artists Winsome Jobling and Leon Stainer in 2007. Fine paper-making and print-making techniques were introduced to Sanggar Uim Nima, a weaving cooperative, with the aim of providing opportunities for long-term economic benefits and a revival of cultural activity within the community.

This Asialink project is part of the Eastern Indonesia-Northern Territory Partnership Program, funded by the Ford Foundation, Jakarta and Arts NT, and produced in partnership with Yayasan Kelola, MAGNT, Charles Darwin University and Nomad Art Productions.
