The Sydney PEN Centre, one of nearly 130 centres worldwide that comprise International PEN, is a membership association of prominent literary writer and editors. As a major voice of the literary community, the organisation seeks to defend the freedom of expression wherever it maybe threatened, campaigning for Writers in Prison or in jeopardy (especially those in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region), lobbying on issues of censorship and media suppression, and hosting events which promote literary creativity and translation.
