The NSW Writers’ Centre welcomes three visiting Indonesian writers, RICHARD OH (see editorial Newswrite November 2005) and DEWI LESTARI. Richard, Ketut and Dewi will read from their work and will be talking about the state of creative writing in Indonesia.
RICHARD OH is the founder and owner of a chain of book stores called QB World in Jakarta and several cities in Java. He has written three novels: Pathfinders of Love (1999), Heart of the Night in (2000) and The Rainmaker’s Daughter (2004). Richard also established a small publishing company, Metafor, in 2001, specialising in literary and cultural works, translating also a series of Indonesian legendary writers. The Khatulistiwa Literary Award for novels, short stories and poetry is a testimony of Oh’s dedication to Indonesian arts and literature. Initiated by Richard and QB World, it is a non-profit program that offers Indonesian artists recognition for their achievement.
DEWI LESTARI SIMANGUNSONG is the author of the best-selling and largely self-published Supernova novel series. She is also a singer with vocal trio RSD.
KETUT YULIARSA is a writer, actor and musician. His poems and prose have been published in The Bali Post and Sinar Harapan, as well as in publications such as Vern Cork’s The Morning After and Jean Couteau’s compilation of essays Bali Today 2005. Ketut has published two collections of poetry Night Voice/Suara Malam published in 1996 and, most recently, Jatuh Bisu/Falling In Silence published in 2006.
